Germans want Nokia investigated for possible misuse of EU funds

The German government has announced it wants the European Commission to investigate whether the relocation of Nokia 's mobile phone factory from Germany to Romania in Eastern Europe has been in part financed with money from the EU's structural fund.

Deputy Economics Minister Hartmut Schauerte said using EU money for such purposes would be illegal. 2,300 jobs will be lost if Nokia goes ahead and closes its factory in Bochum despite having received 90 million euros in German subsidies.
